Football preseason is upon us and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to tailgate!

Of course, the game is a great experience no matter who is playing, but the real fun begins in the parking lots before the teams play. When you approach the stadium, there is a sea of your team’s colors, a wafting scent of your favorite tailgate foods, and the myriad of yard games being played. The overall vibes surrounding the stadium are enough to put anyone in a good mood.

So you park the car and set up shop, but now what? Did you come prepared to eat, drink and play? Or did you poorly plan the day out? Have no fear, we have some great tailgating activities that are sure to keep you busy until kickoff.

First thing’s first, music. There are some dynamite game day playlists out there to choose from if you don’t want the pressure of making your own crowd-pleasing mix. You should have an even combination of classic throwback sing-a-longs, rock hits, and modern-day jams. If you are in control of the music, you have a hand in everyone’s pre-game mood!

Whether you throw a frisbee, play catch with a football or crack open a cold one, staying active is the key to making the time fly by before a game. Moving around is always a great way to stay warm when the colder months come around too.  Below are a few of the top games we at Decade Cigarettes prefer to play at a tailgate:

  • Touch football (pending you have the room for it)
  • Cornhole/Baggo
  • Washers (a game that combines cornhole and horseshoes)

If you’re not up for getting rowdy playing games, take a walk around the lot. You’re bound to find some extravagant tailgates from those die-hard fans. Finding fans that are rooting for the same team you are, is an easy way to make new friends and connections. Plus, good old-fashioned “people-watching” at large events like a football game is always incredible.

Lastly, you can’t have a proper tailgate without food. Check out our last post about the best foods to cook/bring to a tailgate! Go, Team!
