Seriously Amazing Inventions Everyone Takes for Granted

In a world that is filled with high-tech gadgets and futuristic innovations, we never shine the light on the “basic” items we use on an everyday basis. These seriously amazing creations may not have any flashy features, but they have definitely mastered the art of making our lives a whole lot easier. Here are a few inventions that we take for granted.

  • Pillows – we imagine there were a lot of neck problems before the pillow became a thing
  • Silverware – our fingers are a lot cleaner because of it!
  • Doorbell – so simple!
  • Toilet paper holder – thank goodness! Now if only we could get everyone to use it…
  • Socks – put your dogs away! And keep ‘em warm while you’re at it
  • Sunglasses – for some, they are just for the fashion, but we gotta protect those peepers!
  • The remote control – the horror of having to go up to the TV to change the channel!
  • The elevator – this might be the best one on this list
  • Cup holder – this was a game changer! Think about all those drinks going flying in cars back in the old days
  • Microwave – what did people even do before the microwave? Can’t even think about that
  • Keyrings – we’ve all got a lot of keys jangling around
  • Velcro – those who don’t know how or just don’t want to tie their shoes are extra thankful for this one
  • A wallet – there was probably a lot of lost cash before this one came around
  • Ashtray – this one feels like a no-brainer
  • Toilet brush – yeah… enough said.

Being an innovator isn’t easy. I mean who would’ve thought to create a toilet paper holder?! Here are a few more little know inventions that were created right in our very own backyard.

What is one “basic” invention you can’t live without?

Strange Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving is all about tradition – whether it’s carving the turkey, sharing what we’re thankful for, watching the game, or capturing the memories. But some families celebrate in… strange ways. Check out these unusual Thanksgiving traditions. Who knows, you might find some inspiration.

Turkey Bowling: Why use bowling balls when you have turkey?People use soda or water bottles as pins and use a turkey to knock them down.

Turkey Toss: In Indiana, people started an annual tradition of dressing up turkeys in onesies, dousing them in lighter fluid, attaching a long chain, lighting the turkey on fire, and throwing it across the length of a football field. This all started with a bunch of dudes wanting to see a flaming turkey, but somehow it became an annual thing.

Turkey calling competition: Get ready to cover your ears! This strange tradition brings together skilled turkey callers, often hunters, to showcase their talents for a prize.

Thanksgiving in space: Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have their own Thanksgiving tradition with space-friendly versions of turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes.

The Turkey Trot: This tradition happens all over the country. Thousands of adults dress up as turkeys and run a 5k either for charity or just to get their bellies ready for a feast. This is the strangest one of all, if you ask us.

We all know the real reason why we love Thanksgiving – it’s the food. But every year we always go for the same sides. How about we take it up a notch? Here are some sides to add to the dinner table that are just better with bacon.

What Your Lawn Says About You

Alright fellas, grab your mowers and put on your lawn care capes because we’re getting down and dirty. We’re about to embark on a journey through the untamed (or tamed) wilderness known as your front yard. You see, your lawn isn’t just a patch of green – it’s a reflection of you! They say you can learn a lot about a man by the way he tends to his grass. So, get ready because we’re about to spill the turf tea on what your lawn is whispering about you.

The Picture Perfect

Let’s start with the picture-perfects. Well-manicured, always cut low, and the crisp horizontal lines — you like your lawn to be just as perfect as you are. You’re someone in the neighborhood everyone can go to. If they need a cup of sugar, you got it. If they need to borrow a wrench, you’ll supply it, and if they need some tips and tricks on a healthy lawn, you’ll jump for joy. But what they don’t know is your lawn is your escape. You love to spend time with your family but let’s face it, everyone needs a break every once in a while. Overall, you’re someone that everyone says “is the man” because you’re just that cool.

The “I Couldn’t Care Less”

If your lawn is in limbo, purely overgrown, and looks as though no one has touched it in years, i.e. a jungle – you couldn’t care less. You’re too busy with more important things in life than tending to your lawn. Heck, some tall grass never hurt anyone, so what’s the harm? You’ve got a family that’s always on the go and you’d rather go with them than hang back and make sure the grassy edges are crisp. Life is too short for you to put your energy into landscaping. You do you!

The One with Nature

If your lawn is filled with dandelions, crabgrass, bindweed, etc. – you’re one with nature. You don’t care about keeping your lawn as perfect as the front page of a landscaping magazine. You care about your lawn being similar to a natural botanical garden. You’re considered the chill neighbor. The one who likes to sit back on their porch and light up a cigarette and watch the world go by. To put it short, you’re a guy who would rather spend time in a garden, but your front lawn will suffice.

If you ever have the thought “I need a break from mowing this lawn, let me call someone up.” Just think about if you want a job done right, you gotta do it yourself because no one does a job better than you.

If your lawn had a motto what would it be?

The Secret to a Happy Relationship

If you’re a lady and reading this, skip on over to another blog because this one here is for the fellas.

Okay guys, now that we have you alone, we’re dropping some serious relationship knowledge and spill the beans on the secret to relationship happiness. Word on the street is that you need this. SPOILER ALERT! These tips may give you a few brownie points.

  • First things first, agree with everything she says
  • Bring home “just because” flowers every once in a while
  • Do some chores around the house
  • Taker her out on dates (yes, dates continue even after you guys make it official)
  • When she asks what you want for dinner, don’t say “whatever you want”. Give her an answer and then when she changes it to what she wants, accept it.
  • Slide her a few bucks for a self-care day (a win-win for both parties)
  • Make the bed
  • Let her know she has still got it! Shower her with compliments. Extra points for compliments when she’s chillin’ at home in her sweats and no makeup.
  • Pick your battles (is the sock on the floor really an argument starter?)
  • Make sure to have “me, myself, and I time.” A little time apart makes the heart grow fonder.
  • Make her laugh everyday, even if it makes you look ridiculous
  • Learn the art of selective hearing. Some things just need to be swept under the rug.
  • Don’t go to bed angry. Stay up and fight all night!
  • Get a king-sized bed

To keep the love alive, it takes more than a few hugs and kisses. We get that money can be tight and extravagant dates are not always an option. Lucky for you we have a few ideas for a date night that won’t break the bank.

How should you settle disagreements in a happy relationship?

Did we catch your attention? Let’s face it, a two-day weekend isn’t enough of a reset from the long work week. Seriously, 48 hours? Half of those hours we’re still making up sleep that we missed from the whole week!

As much as we do not like to point fingers, we’d like to have a little talk with Henry Ford (the dude responsible for the 5-day workweek).

Any who – we’re tired just like you and the next thing we’re about to tell you… you didn’t get it from us. Here are a few excuses you can use to play hooky from work.
