Chips and salsa are a match made in heaven. Making salsa at home shouldn’t be a task you shy away from. With basic ingredients and only 10 minutes of cook time, this is something you should be making more at home! We’re going to share what we believe to be the best salsa recipe so, you can stop eating that premade stuff.
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ pound of tomatillos, makes sure to remove all the husks, and split in half.
- 2 plum tomatoes
- 1 white onion, peeled and split in half
- 1-4 serrano or jalapeno split in half, quantity depending on how much heat you like in your salsa. Also, remove or keep seeds for heat intensity.
- 12-15 cilantro sprigs, you can get rid of the lower tough part of the stems.
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- ½ lime
- Kosher salt
Directions:
- Adjust the oven rack to the middle. Preheat broiler to high.
- Place tomatillos, tomatoes, onion, and chilies on a foil-lined pan.
- Broil until the produce and dark and charred on top and tomatillos are tender. 5 to 15 minutes.
- Once produce is done in the oven, put the vegetables into a food processor or cup with a handheld blender and pulse. Stop when all ingredient reaches a pureed texture.
- Squeeze in the ½ lime
- Heat oil in a medium saucepan on high heat. Allow the oil to warm.
- Pour salsa into the hot pan.
- Cook for three minutes continually stirring.
- Remove from heat.
- Rough chop the cilantro to the size of your liking and fold it into the salsa.
- Allow to cool and enjoy up to five days in the fridge.
