Biltmore House – Asheville, NC
If you’re looking for a grand time, there’s no place grander than the Biltmore estate located in Asheville, NC. Named America’s largest home, this spectacular piece of architecture was built in the 1890s by the famous, George W. Vanderbilt. The home was open to the public in December of 1895 and has since attracted tourists from all over the world to explore the magnificent 8,000-acre property that features over 250 rooms and 65 fireplaces. Take a guided or self-guided tour of the house, stroll through the beautiful gardens, explore the farm, check out the winery or partake in any of the Biltmore’s outdoor activities. With all the family fun attractions there are to offer, you’re sure to spend a whole day experiencing the magic of this French Renaissance chateau.
Outer Banks – Buxton, NC
Located in the Outer Banks on Hatteras Island, the serene and quiet little coastal town of Buxton is a hidden gem of North Carolina. The town is immersed in history, maritime heritage, and breathtaking shorelines that make it a highly sought vacation destination. Your visit is not complete without stopping to see one of the town’s most historic structures, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. What keeps attracting vacationers back here each year? The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest brick lighthouse structure in the United States and if you have what it takes, you can go to the top! Do you have what it takes to climb the 257 steps? The views from the top are well worth the workout.
Chimney Rock State Park – Rutherford County, NC
North Carolina is a nature lover’s dream and that’s because of places like Chimney Rock State Park. With incredible hiking trails and views that belong on the back of a postcard, the 8,014-acre park offers visitors a full mountain experience like no other. Its signature attraction, “the Rock”, is a 535-million-year-old monolith that offers incomparable views of western North Carolina and it can all be accessed by elevator. Yes, you read that right, by elevator. Carved out of solid rock, a 198-foot tunnel takes you into the mountain to a 26-story elevator shaft that takes you will lead you right to the top of the Chimney and its out of this world views. If you’re a fitness junkie, feel free to take the 500+ stairs up the Outcroppings Trail to the top of the mountain. We’ll meet you there. To each their own.
U.S. National Whitewater Center – Charlotte, NC
If you’re looking for adventure, look no farther than the U.S. National Whitewater Center! Not only is this the place the nation’s top athletes in canoe and kayak spend their day’s training, but the facility is also open to the public and offers over 30 different recreational activities for the most perfect day outside! Activities vary by season but with whitewater rafting, ziplines, ropes courses, mountain biking, climbing, ice skating, and much more, we’re sure you won’t have a problem finding something to do. The Whitewater Center is a great family atmosphere and a wonderful place to connect and create new memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
